Sorcerer's Apprentice's, Dungeons and Dragons, and this darned cold!!!!!!

Well, hello again! Oh my goodness, this last week could have been better. Seriously, people always say 'It's just a cold' when they get one, as if it wasn't that big a deal, and I suppose it's not in the grand scheme of things, but, seriously, let's be honest with one another, it's effing misery for days on end. I'd almost rather have the flu (well, the 24 hour variety, anyway) because that doesn't seem to just linger, and linger, and linger like a cold does. Ugggh!

Anyway, so I spent the last week fighting this cold I have. You know how it goes, popping all sorts of pills, eating the chicken soup, being generally tired, miserable, and gross. Great fun. And, unlike those of you out there with 9-to-5's, those of us in the freelance category don't really have bosses that we can call in sick to. We have editors and art directors that we just have to pray are understanding. Thankfully right now mine are. :) That's a stress that I thankfully don't have to deal with in addition to the awful grossness.

On the upside, I'm feeling better today. Not one hundred percent mind you, but better, and oh so very thankful that I can breathe through my nose again. :) Start getting these chapped and cracked lips to healing. :P

In way better news, I have learned that this coming Wednesday is the day that you all can expect to see my issue of Grimm Fairy Tales, #21, The Sorcerer's Apprentice on sale at your local comic shop! Now, I take it that some of you may have been able to get it last week, I have heard from my inside source ;) that it is on lists to ship in the Chicago area this week, so, hopefully that means that you'll all have access to it this week. AICN did a really complementary review of the issue. You can find it here it's in the 'Indy Jones' section. Zenescope has a discussion thread about it on their boards for those of you that would like to chime in. You can find the thread here. So far the book seems to be getting some very nice feedback, so thanks to those of you that have shared with us. :) And, don't forget, you can check out some preview pages in the SA gallery. Now if you want to see them come to life with Nei's amazing color work, you'll have to pick up the book, but the pages in the gallery are a nice little taster for you. :)

AAAAAANND, if you get 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' and say to yourself, 'Self, I wish EricJ would do more fantasy work', you'll be stoked to hear that my next project looks like it just might be a story for Devil's Due's 'Worlds of Dungeons and Dragons' anthology series. I've been approved by the D&D licensor guys (Hasbro, in other words), so hopefully we'll start work on that soon. James Lowder, the editor of said book, and I were supposed to work on a short story years ago for another anthology, but the company folded before we could do it (story of this business these days), so it's cool to finally get to work with him, and also cool that he remembered me. Anyway, this one is still at a very early stage, so more on that as I get further into it. :)

So, yeah, I'm excited about that coming up. 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' was so much fun, not just working with Raven and Nei, but, being a bit of a fantasy nerd, getting to draw that stuff was really cool, and it was my first time really getting to play with some of those toys. :) This kind of fantasy is just so much fun because there aren't really any restrictions. You can just let your imagination run wild, something I haven't been able to do, really, on any of the other projects I've worked on in the past. SO, yeah, looking forward to playing around with the fantasy a little more, fo' sho'!

And that's about that, keepin' busy with both comics and non-comics work. That's a nice commodity when you're a freelancer.

Peace,
eric
