Oh my goodness, this last week could have been better. Seriously, people always say 'It's just a cold' when they get one, as if it wasn't that big a deal, and I suppose it's not in the grand scheme of things, but, seriously, let's be honest with one another, it's effing misery for days on end. I'd almost rather have the flu (well, the 24 hour variety, anyway) because that doesn't seem to just linger, and linger, and linger like a cold does. Ugggh!

Anyway, so I spent the last week fighting this cold I have. You know how it goes, popping all sorts of pills, eating the chicken soup, being generally tired, miserable, and gross. Great fun. And, unlike those of you out there with 9-to-5's, those of us in the freelance category don't really have bosses that we can call in sick to. We have editors and art directors that we just have to pray are understanding. Thankfully right now mine are. :) That's a stress that I thankfully don't have to deal with in addition to the awful grossness.

On the upside, I'm feeling better today. Not one hundred percent mind you, but better, and oh so very thankful that I can breathe through my nose again. :) Start getting these chapped and cracked lips to healing. :P

In way better news, I have learned that this coming Wednesday is the day that you all can expect to see my issue of Grimm Fairy Tales, #21, The Sorcerer's Apprentice on sale at your local comic shop! Now, I take it that some of you may have been able to get it last week, I have heard from my inside source ;) that it is on lists to ship in the Chicago area this week, so, hopefully that means that you'll all have access to it this week. AICN did a really complementary review of the issue. You can find it here it's in the 'Indy Jones' section. Zenescope has a discussion thread about it on their boards for those of you that would like to chime in. You can find the thread here. So far the book seems to be getting some very nice feedback, so thanks to those of you that have shared with us. :) And, don't forget, you can check out some preview pages in the SA gallery. Now if you want to see them come to life with Nei's amazing color work, you'll have to pick up the book, but the pages in the gallery are a nice little taster for you. :)

AAAAAANND, if you get 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' and say to yourself, 'Self, I wish EricJ would do more fantasy work', you'll be stoked to hear that my next project looks like it just might be a story for Devil's Due's 'Worlds of Dungeons and Dragons' anthology series. I've been approved by the D&D licensor guys (Hasbro, in other words), so hopefully we'll start work on that soon. James Lowder, the editor of said book, and I were supposed to work on a short story years ago for another anthology, but the company folded before we could do it (story of this business these days), so it's cool to finally get to work with him, and also cool that he remembered me. Anyway, this one is still at a very early stage, so more on that as I get further into it. :)

So, yeah, I'm excited about that coming up. 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' was so much fun, not just working with Raven and Nei, but, being a bit of a fantasy nerd, getting to draw that stuff was really cool, and it was my first time really getting to play with some of those toys. :) This kind of fantasy is just so much fun because there aren't really any restrictions. You can just let your imagination run wild, something I haven't been able to do, really, on any of the other projects I've worked on in the past. SO, yeah, looking forward to playing around with the fantasy a little more, fo' sho'!

And that's about that, keepin' busy with both comics and non-comics work. That's a nice commodity when you're a freelancer.

Peace,
eric

I think it's basically done!

<dc:subject>EricJ-art.com</dc:subject>

OK, I think that's basically it. I may be adding new things here and there, but for the most part I think we're set.

So what do we have?

Well I threw up Preview Galleries for Two upcoming projects: Grimm Fairy Tales #22- The Sorcerer's Apprentice coming in, like, a week from Zenescope and The Cisco Kid vs. Wyatt Earp, which will be soliciting in the May issue of Previews for a July release, from Moonstone. Take a look, I think you'll dig what you see, and will hopefully be dying to get your hands on the books when they come out. :)

I also threw up two 'permanent' Galleries: One for my Covers and Pin-ups, especially notable for a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' test thingy that I did that I haven't ever posted publicly before, and one for some of the Snowboard Graphics I've done.

So, I hope you dig the art, and I hope that you find the galleries easy to use and quick loading.

I also added a new Forum to the site. Now, this is mostly just for fun, honestly. I like forums, and I'd love all of you to head over, register, and start chatting, so I hope you do, but I also know just how many forums there are out there, and, well, I'm no Mark Millar or Warren Ellis, so there you go, but I still hope to see you there! :)

So, there you go! Hope you all like the new place. Hope you find it easy to use, and, please, take a moment to let me know what you think. :)

--eric

Just playing

<dc:subject>EricJ-art.com</dc:subject>

Just seeing how things go with multiple entries, comments, and such. :) Don't mind me.

Welcome to the new and improved (well, different anyway) Ericj-art.com

<dc:subject>EricJ-art.com</dc:subject>

ALROIGHTY then! Welcome, welcome, welcome. Don't mind the dust, we're still under construction here, but I'm pretty stoked so far. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is SO much easier than what I was doing before.

1. why the change,
2. what took so long to update,
3. is this going to last?

All good questions. The answers, as best I can provide them are as follows:

1. The change is due to the fact that I just didn't have the time, or the energy to update the site the way it was. The blog itself was easy enough, although I must say I'd grown a little tired of the way it looked. So, faced with that, and my discovery of Myspace, I just started doing all my blogging and stuff over there. Not the best solution, but it was easy, and there's the whole community aspect as well. Anyway, this weekend my Myspace page was M.I.A. for about 24 hours, and I kind of realized the error in judgement that is relying on someone else's site to connect with fans and peers, so it then became a priority to get this redesign under way and find SOME way to make the whole process, blogging, galleries, etc., quick and easy to build and maintain. I think I've found it with RapidWeaver, at least I'm stoked so far.
2. Oh, well, I guess I answered this one above. :)
3. Is it going to continue, meaning, 'will I keep updating?'. Yeah, if this is as easy as I think it is it shouldn't be too hard to keep up with, even with my limited time. So, best I can say is I plan on it, yeah. :)

Anyway, so welcome to the new digs, I hope you like it. I know I'm much happier with it so far, and I'm not done yet. Some of the third party add-ons for the app are really neat, and I'm excited to see what's possible. If you can, take a moment to leave a comment and let me know what you think of my shiny new toy. :D

--eric
